3D Goalie Mask Template ProCreate
This is a 3D goalie mask template, based off of a Pro’s Choice model of mask. This allows you to draw, paint and design a goalie mask in 3D so you or your client can mock up your dream paint job and view it on a moveable spinable 3D template. This a ProCreate file so it is meant to be used in ProCreate.
This was made by Media Arts Lab for the Apple ‘Made on iPad’ commercial, I asked about getting the template after and they were gracious enough to give it to me to give to all, so big ups to them for that!
Let’s call this a beta test version tho, there are definitely some bugs and for that I have created a few workarounds that helped me. I will make a video to follow that will help with this, but for now what you should know is that the layering can be a bit confusing. I have created grouped layers called Mask, Straps, Cage, and Backplate. When you are wanting to work on the Mask for example select the 3D layer with the Mask on it (These are all named Capacete… but choose then one with the image of the mask) this will tell you what section you are painting, but not what layer you are working on. So now go to my grouped layers for Mask click the drop down and choose a layer (Mask, Mask1, Mask 2…) and select it. Then you will be working on the mask section on a mask layer. Do the same for any other section you want to work on. For the cage select the Cage section (Capacete..) and also go to the cage layers, drop down and select one of those layers to work with (Cage, Cage1…) and the same for backplate and straps. There are some bugs and this will cause you less problems.
So now you are set up and ready to paint, and for just painting everything works pretty well. But say you want to drop in an image from your photo reel, your logo for example, well things get REALLY weird! It can’t really handle this in 3D mode and the image will get cut off from moving over different sections and the holes cut pieces of the logo out, it basically does not work!! But… dont fret too hard, your boy JBo has another work around for you! Before bringing in your image, hit the actions button (the wrench icon) then hit the 3D icon and turn on ‘Show 2D texture’. Now you will get a 2D template and you can see the flattened version of the mask. Now place your image from your photos or files, size it and drag it around and place it where you want it. You can then switch from 2D to 3D and see how it looks. It will probably be a bit warped as the 2D to 3D bugs things. It’s not perfect but this is definitely the best way to bring in an existing image. Then if it’s a little funny shaped to warped you can try and correct it or even just paint it back to normal in 3D mode.
So MAL and Apple have given this to me to give to the community for free, and on that community building note I will ask for a hand from any other 3D builders that possibly know how to take this pre existing model and help fix the bugs to make this model better for all of us. If you do have this skillset and want to help send me an email to jbo.airbrush@gmail.com I and many other people who look forward to using this template would really appreciate it!
Thanks friends feel free to download and enjoy this 3D model and can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!!
